Construction & CIS

CIS registration, monthly CIS returns, subcontractor support, payroll, VAT, bookkeeping and construction-sector accounts.

Overview

How we help with Construction & CIS

Construction carries rules no other sector has: the Construction Industry Scheme, domestic reverse charge VAT, and retention accounting. Getting them wrong is expensive and easy.

We handle CIS end to end — registering you as contractor or subcontractor, verifying subcontractors with HMRC, calculating deductions at the right rate, producing payment and deduction statements, and filing monthly CIS300 returns before the deadline. For subcontractors, we make sure deductions suffered are properly reclaimed rather than lost.

Alongside that we deal with the domestic reverse charge for construction services, retentions, applications for payment and contract-level margin reporting — the parts of construction accounting that generic bookkeeping usually mishandles.

FAQs

Construction & CIS — common questions

When are CIS returns due?

Monthly, by the nineteenth of the month following the tax month being reported. Late returns attract automatic penalties that escalate quickly.

What is the domestic reverse charge?

For most construction services between CIS-registered businesses, the customer accounts for the VAT rather than the supplier charging it. It changes both invoicing and cash flow, and catches out businesses that keep charging VAT as before.

How is your fee worked out?

Fixed fee, agreed before we start. Pricing depends on the size and complexity of your business, so get in touch for a free, no-obligation quote.

Can you help if we're switching from another accountant?

Yes. We handle professional clearance with your previous accountant and update the agent authorisations with HMRC and Companies House, so you don't have to manage the handover.
